Hi Sharp CCTV: IP or AHD — which system fits your property?

Taiwanese-built cameras, H.265 recorders and setup-free PoE NVRs. A practical guide to choosing between IP and AHD for your home or business.

Our CCTV shelf is built around Hi Sharp — a Taiwanese manufacturer that has been making professional video surveillance since 1997. The range splits into two families, and choosing between them is the first decision in any CCTV project.

AHD: the smart upgrade path

AHD sends HD video over the same coaxial cable that analogue CCTV has used for decades. If your building already has coax runs from an old system, an AHD upgrade reuses them: new cameras, new DVR, same wires. Hi Sharp's AHD bullet and dome cameras deliver crisp 2MP images at a very sharp price point.

IP: the modern standard

IP cameras send video over the network, which unlocks higher resolutions (2 to 4 megapixels and beyond in our range), better analytics and single-cable PoE installation. Hi Sharp's setup-free PoE NVRs are the star of the show: plug the cameras into the recorder's own PoE ports and they configure themselves — recording starts before your coffee gets cold.

Both give you remote viewing

Whichever family you choose, H.265 compression keeps storage lean, and the mobile apps put live view and playback on your phone. We size storage for your retention needs — a fortnight for most homes, longer where insurance or compliance asks for it.

Our advice

New installation with no existing cabling? Go IP. Upgrading an older analogue system on a budget? AHD gets you HD without rewiring. Not sure? Bring a plan of your property to the Birkirkara showroom and we'll design the camera layout with you — that's the part that actually determines whether your CCTV is useful on the day you need it.
